Flights in Belgium disrupted due to strike

Flights in and out of Brussels will be badly disrupted Thursday as air traffic controllers take protest action over working conditions. Brussels Area Control Centre will be closed between 9.30 and 13.00 local time (7:30 to 11:00 GMT). As a result, operations at Brussels Airport are severely impacted. Delays, late arrivals as well as cancellations remain possible throughout the whole day, the Brussels Airport announced in a statement. "Passengers whose flight is cancelled due to the strike action are requested to contact their airline for more information. We kindly ask passengers whose flights are cancelled not to come to the airport," it added. Last week, representatives of air traffic controllers and management at the Belgian air traffic control agency Skeyes struck a deal that was supposed to end the strike at the agency, Belgian media reported. But only the minority socialist union accepted the deal, while the two other unions that represent most of the controllers rejected it, said Flanders News portal.
