What are the Contraindications (May Not Be Vaccinated):

It is the person's condition that may increase the risk of complications if vaccinated.

What are the Precautions (Can Be Vaccinated under Specific Conditions):

It is the person's condition that may increase the possibilities of complications or decrease the effectiveness of a vaccine. must be well examined for the person's best interest. It must be, also, studied for any non-vaccination risks or life threatening complications.

Contraindications and Precautions

Vaccine
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
Precautions:
  • Acute infection with/without high temperature
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Occurrence of mild reactions, such as: swelling, redness, pain, and/or mild rise in body temperature after a previous dose
  • Treatment with antibiotics
  • Premature babies
  • Previous infection with a contagious disease

DTaP Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Encephalopathy (Coma and Epilepsy)
  • Neurological disorders: out of control convulsions and epilepsy seizures. In such cases, vaccine dose is deferred until the doctor's report on the case is presented
  • Acute infection with/without high temperature
Precautions:
  • Rise of body temperature to more than 40 degrees over less than 48 hours after being given a previous dose of DPT or DTaP vaccine
  • Fainting and in state of shock, being unconscious, for less than 48 hours after being given a previous dose of DPT or DTaP vaccine
  • Having convulsions for less than three days after being given a previous dose of DPT or DTaP vaccine
  • Crying continuously for more than three hours over a range of 48 hours after being given a previous dose of DPT or DTaP vaccine
  • Acute or mild infection with/without high temperature
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Rise of body temperature to 40 degrees or less, irritation or desire to sleep after being given a previous dose
  • Family history of convulsions
  • Family history of sudden child death
  • Family history of complications of the vaccine
  • Neurological seizures being treated after consulting the doctor

DT, Td Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
Precautions:
  • Suffering from Guillian-Barre syndrome in period less than six weeks after a previous dose
  • Acute or mild infection
  • Doses may be deferred while having fever or during the activity of an advanced chronic
  • During pregnancy period
  • Patients of immune deficiency diseases or who take drugs that affect the immunity

Pentavalent Vaccine: Diphtheria + Tetanus + Pertussis + Whole Cell + Hepatitis B + Haemophilus Influenzae B (Hib)

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Encephalopathy (Coma and Epilepsy)
  • Neurological disorders: out of control convulsions and epilepsy seizures. In such cases, vaccine dose is deferred until the doctor's report on the case is presented
  • Acute infection with/without high temperature
Precautions:

IPV Vaccine

Contraindications: strong>
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component, such as: Neomycin, Streptomycin, Polymyxine B
  • Acute infection with/without high temperature
Precautions:
  • Pregnancy
  • Thrombocytopenia, bleeding disorder
  • Suffering from immune deficiency or taking treatment that affects the immune system may defer vaccination
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • HIV-positive patients
  • Previous doses of OPV vaccine
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Chemotherapy, radiotherapy or corticosteroids

OPV Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Thermometer on the vaccine bottle: the internal square has the same or darker colour as that of the surrounding circle
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component, such as: Neomycin, Streptomycin, Polymyxine B, or other vaccine components
  • Lymphoma, leukemia, advanced cancer cases, cortisone therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, HIV-positive, and immune deficiency diseases that are being treated
Precautions:
  • Suffering from severe diarrhea and vomiting after being given the vaccine. Another dose must be given after these symptoms are resolved
  • Pregnancy: in case of epidemics
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Acute or mild infection with high temperature
  • This vaccine can be given at the same time with the following vaccines: Measles, Rubella, Mumps, DTP, DT, TT, Td, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus, Influenza type B, and Yellow fever
  • Extra vaccine doses must be given to contacts of a patient without any consideration for any previous doses
  • Thermometer on the vaccine bottle: the internal square has lighter colour than that of the surrounding circle. In this case, the vaccine is usable
  • Being allergic to IPV vaccine

MMR Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component, such as: Gelatin and Neomycin or other vaccine components
  • Immune deficiency diseases, including: blood diseases, lymphoma, leukemia and other cancer, humoral and cellular immune deficiencies, such as: HIV+ve cases, if the patient has immune deficiency, according to the attached table of HIV+ve cases
  • Patients who are under treatment with medicines that affect immunity, e.g.: cholesterol, must review the attached table. The vaccine is not given in the following high dose cases: High-dose steroid therapy daily or on for more than 14 days alternate days (more than 2 mg/kg/day or more than 20 mg/day of prednisone)
  • Active untreated Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Pregnancy, the pregnancy should be deferred for more than 12 weeks

Precautions:
  • Unless MMR vaccine is given at the same time with a living vaccine, the other vaccine must be differed for 4 weeks
  • The guidelines for Vaccine Administration must be reviewed after being given any vaccine. If the vaccine must be given, blood tests must be performed after at least 3 months to confirm immunity developed against mumps and rubella, and after 3 to 11 months to confirm immunity developed against measles
  • Infection of Thrombocytopenia or Thrombocytopenic Purpura after less than 8 weeks of a dose of MMR
  • Check for details in the attached table
  • Positive results for tuberculin PPD test
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Cortisone therapy (check the table)
  • Lactation
  • The mother of the child or any of his contacts is pregnant
  • Vaccination of females in childbearing age
  • Contacts or member of the family suffering from immune deficiency
  • AIDS patient without symptoms of the disease
  • OPV vaccine is given at the same time with MMR vaccine, Ty21a typhoid vaccine, or yellow fever vaccine
  • Allergy to eggs does not contraindicate MMR vaccine

Hib Haemophilus Type b Conjugate Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
  • Being younger than 6 weeks
Precautions:
  • Acute or mild infection with/without high temperature

Hepatitis B Vaccine (can be given alone or with pentavalent vaccine)

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component or to Tetanus vaccine
Precautions:
  • Infants who weigh less than 2000 grams Vaccine dose is deferred for the infant who weighs less than 2000 grams, if the infant mother is found to be HBsAg negative at the time of birth and until the infant is one month old. If the mother is found to be HBsAg positive, the infant is injected 0.5 milliliter of HBIG vaccine at birth in one side and Hepatitis B vaccine in the other side
  • Pregnancy
  • Acute or mild infection with high temperature, especially infectious or advanced chronic diseases
  • Vaccine effectiveness decrease for patients of immune deficiency diseases
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Autoimmune diseases, such as: Lups Erythmatosis or Rheumatic Arthritis
  • HIV positive
  • Simultaneous administration with HBIG
  • Nursing mothers

Pulmonary Vaccine: Polysaccharide Pneumococcal Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • One year old infants or younger
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
Precautions:
  • Acute or mild infection with/without high temperature
  • Vaccine dose may be deferred if body temperature is high or suffering from acute infection or chronic disease relapse
  • Previous dose of the vaccine was given during the last three years and there is infection with viral pneumonia with the virus Streptococcus Pneumonia
  • Pregnancy and lactation

  • Giving the vaccine at the same time with Influenzae vaccine

Pulmonary Vaccine: Pneumococcal Saccharide Conjugated vaccine adsorbed

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component or to Diphtheria vaccine
Precautions:
  • Hemorrhagic diseases
  • High temperature

Influenzae Vaccine

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
  • Allergy to eggs
Precautions:
  • Acute or mild infection with/without high temperature
May Be Vaccinated / No Contradictions
  • Non-severe contact allergy to Latex or thimorsal
  • Treatment with the medicines: Coumadin or aminophylline

Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccine: Neisseria Meningitides of group A,C,W135 and Y

Contraindications:
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis after a previous vaccine dose
  • Severe allergy: anaphylaxis to a vaccine component
Precautions:
  • Acute or mild infection with/without high temperature
Antipyretics, e.g. Acetaminophen, can be given to patients having a family history of neurological convulsions along with DTaP vaccine. The antipyretic must be given every 4 hours for 24 hours to reduce the possibilities of any rise in body temperature after being given the vaccine
MMR vaccine can be given on the same day with Varicella vaccine. If this is not available, the other vaccine must be given after 28 days
Cortisone medications lead to immune deficiency if the dose is 20 mg/kg body weight of prednisone or equivalent over more than two weeks (check the table)
